We're having a show & tell special, the lovely folks from Beatniks will be there to show us the latest build of their game Plain Sight and the makers of Herriman (which won our last competition) will be showing off their DBP 2008 entry Sumo Squash.
Microsoft have kindly allowed us to use an auditorium in their offices, so both games will be showing on a very large projection screen. There will also be food and drinks for all.
When: Fri 17th October, 6pm till 8ish Where: Microsoft, Cardinal Place, near Victoria Station (same place as last time)
If you would like to come along, then please reply to this post, so that we have an idea of numbers. This does mean you'll need to join the site but how many other internet forums can guarantee free chocolate brownies when you join?
If I can get there I will...as ever, nothing to show or tell, but be nice to see Plain Sight and Sumo Squash, also, Duncan if you come can you bring your entry, sill not had chance to play it and it really has me interested from the last Show & Tell...
Beware the fnords....
:( I can't make it. Weeks ago I booked to see Dylan Moran at De Montfort Hall, so unless I can get back to Leciester for 19:00 then I can't make it and I guess you guys will be kicking off around about then. Work was actually going to give me the day off to go too!!
Next time eh..
sorry to hear that mate! If you're about on the 28th/29th we're going to be showing off Plain Sight at the London Eurogamer Expo - feel free to drop by...
(or you can wait a few weeks and I can hook you up with a pre-beta copy ;) )
see you soon
Robin
I think I'll probably try and make this! Plain Sight looks very similar to a Tron style 3D platformer I wanted to make in XNA, so I'm very interested to see how it plays!
So, who went, what was it like, how did Plain Sight play, was Sumo Squash as violent as it looks? Did Duncan turn up and show his DBP entry? Has anyone sent me a pint of Guinness in the post?
So many questions......
I thought an excellent time was had by all. A few technical problems, but we managed to do some play-testing and give some feedback for Plain Sight (which I hope was useful). I had a blast playing it, I think it shows a lot of promise. It also looked funky and has some great ideas. It was also really cool to meet and talk to the excellent guys behind Beatnik Games.
I can't comment too much on Sumo Squash, but its far far more violent than it looks :P Poor sumos! We had some really useful feedback though, so thanks to everyone for that.
I know myself and the others were gutted, as we didn't have enough time to play Insane Game (too busy waiting for all our assets to copy over the network!), we know how hard it is to get a group together to play these muti-player games.
We bought you a Guinness, but unfortunately someone drank on the way to the post office, sorry.
Aye, all was good. Can't add too much to that other than kudos to Beatnik. I really enjoyed our all to brief hands on with Plain Sight and look forward to seeing where they take it. They are all sound guys to boot! I had fun geeking it up and talking gameplay mechanics over Krad's pint of Guiness. :)
Thanks again for the feedback on Sumo Squash, the technical troubles meant we had no sound (3rd time thats happened! only ourselves and our close friends have heard it with sound!) but luckily it's not intregal to the gameplay. We have a lot to think about now and are going to implement a few things in the not too distant future (schedules permitting!).
Duncan, sorry we didn't get round to Insane Game, the tech troubles took up a lot of the time unfortunately. I have downloaded it here at home though and plan on getting a few people round to play it sometime soon, looks fun! I'll let you know how it goes.
Until the next meet up...
was great fun! i absolutely loved sumo squash – great work guys! Everyone gave fantastic feedback on Plain Sight – we’re currently working like crazy to implement some of it for the IGF :) Can’t wait until the next shindig!
Now, when ever I get people to send me Guinness in the post it seems to get waylayed.... I am starting to think these people don't actually have the intension of posting me the beautiful black neckter.....But that aside, I'm glad you all had a great time, I can't wait to have a play of all three wonderful looking games.
See you all at the next one, social life willing (I know, I should not be allowed to have one....)
I think we need to hold one of these show and tell events on a weekend or bank holiday - I was too busy to travel to london for just 2 or 3 hours (plus it sounds like you didn't have enough time to play Insane Game in the end anyway...)
Maybe we could even do some coding :o
Something to cooincide with community games coming out might be nice ;)
Duncan Stead:Maybe we could even do some coding :o
Interesting idea, although we have no plans for that right now you might be interested in the TIGJam being hosted by Beatniks real soon.
See here for more info.
it'd be great if any of you guys could make it to TIG Jam! Leafs link was broken for me - you can find out all about it here :
