XNA Competition Terms & Conditions

1. ELIGIBILITY: This competition is open to UK & Ireland residents of 16 years of age or older at time of entry. Some prizes (the Rare and Slide prizes) will only be available to persons over the age of 18 at time of entry or if accompanied by a legal guardian. Employees of Microsoft or its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising or promotion agencies are not eligible, nor are members of these employees' families (defined as parents, children, siblings, spouse and life partners).

2. TO ENTER: Entry into this competition may be made by visiting http://www.xna-uk.net/ ("Website") and submitting an entry, along with your name, postal address and email address. Only one entry per person or, with respect to Category 3 entrants, per team, will be accepted and you may not enter more than one category. Incomplete, damaged, defaced or illegible entries may be deemed invalid at the sole discretion of Microsoft. Entry constitutes full and unconditional acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. Microsoft reserves the right to disqualify anyone in breach of these Terms and Conditions.

3. ENTRY SUBMISSIONS: Each entry shall include a short paragraph setting out the context of the submission. All entry elements must either be original or in the public domain. If elements are copyrighted, proof of permission of use must be provided at time of submission or the entry will be rejected. Entries may be made in the following Categories:

- Specifics to Artwork (Category 1):

a. No more than one artistic work per artist may be submitted per Category 1 award.

b. Concept artwork must be supplied as a single high-quality jpeg file at a maximum resolution of 2000x2000 pixels - this single page can contain as many images as necessary.

c. Title screen artwork must be supplied as a single high-quality jpeg file at one of the following resolutions:

    • 1920x1080 pixels
    • 1280x720 pixels

d. Box artwork should be a single high-quality jpeg file created using the supplied template.

e. By submitting an Artwork (Category 1) entry to this competition, each artist consents to such artwork being integrated into a Game Development (Category 3) entry by a third party for the sole purpose of this competition, provided that the artist credits are clearly displayed in relevant Game and provided the artwork is not altered or modified in any way by the third party.

- Specifics to Music (Category 2):

a. No more than one musical work per composer may be submitted per Category 2 award.

b. The musical work must be written so to play seamlessly in a never ending loop.

c. Musical works must adhere to the timing requirements set out on the Website.

d. The musical work submitted must have not been the subject of prior public performances or recordings.

e. By submitting an Music (Category 2) entry to this competition, each composer consents to such music being integrated into a Game Development (Category 3) entry by a third party for the sole purpose of this competition, provided that the composer credits are clearly displayed in relevant Game and provided that the Music is not altered or modified in any way by the third party.

- Specifics to Game Development (Category 3):

a. Game entries may be made by teams consisting of no more than 4 people.

b. Only one Game entry may be submitted by each entrant or, where entry is made by a team, by each team. For the avoidance of doubt. Entrants are only permitted to enter Category 3 as a team or an individual. Entrants are not permitted to enter Category 3 as a team and an individual entrant.

c. Each Game entry must be built using Microsoft's XNA Games Studio 1.0 REFRESH and fit the requirements for Windows game distribution.

d. The XNA UG Credits component will be used to display game and material credits on Game start up.

e. Each Game entry must be packaged using the XNA Games Studio 1.0 REFRESH package feature for the Windows platform (not for the Xbox 360).

f. A Game entry may include an artwork or music which has been submitted as a Category 1 or Category 2 entry to this competition, provided that credit to the artist or composer is displayed at the start of the Game and that no alterations or modifications are made to the Category 1 or Category 2 entry. Game entrants may only use such artwork or music for the purposes of entering this competition and shall not make any commercial use of such works. Further Game entrants may only use such artwork or music after the closing date of the artwork and music section of the competition.

4. TIMING: This competition runs from May 16th-June 12th, 2007 for Music and Artwork entries; and from June 15th-17th, 2007 for Game Play entries. Completed entries must reach Microsoft no later than the relevant closing date.

5. USE OF DATA: Personal data which you provide when you enter this competition may be used for future Microsoft XNA marketing activities. If you agree to this use, please tick the box on the Website.

6. SELECTION OF WINNERS: The winner of each sub category of each Category will be determined by a panel of between 6 and 8 industry judges on June 27th, 2007. The panel of judges will include at least one independent member. The winner(s) will be notified by email by June 29th, 2007. The winner(s) may be required to become involved in further publicity or advertising.

7. PRIZES:

There will be 2 winners in each Category (i.e. one winner of each sub-category within each Category). Details of the sub categories in each Category can be found on the Website. Each winner will receive a fixed prize in addition to a choice of one prize from the Prize Selection list for that Category (as detailed below).

Category 1 - The winner of each sub-category will receive:

1) Microsoft Expression Studio (x1)

2) Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate (x1)

3) This is specific to category 1a. Have your concept art developed into a 3D model by Slide (x1)

And a choice of one prize from the following Prize Selection

1) Xbox 360

2) Wacom Intuos3 A5 Tablet and SoftImage XSI Foundation V6.01

3) EVGA GeForce 8800GTX 768MB DDR3 PCIE DUAL DVI ACS3 / DirectX 10 graphics card

Category 2 - The winner of each sub-category will receive: 

Fixed prizes:

1) Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate (x1)

2) A day at Rare working with a Rare composer to learn tips and tricks of making game industry music (x1)

And a choice of one prize from the following Prize Selection:

1) Xbox 360

2) Sonar 6 Studio plus Edirol USB -25

3) EVGA GeForce 8800GTX 768MB DDR3 PCIE DUAL DVI ACS3 / DirectX 10 graphics card

Category 3 -The winning team (each team member) or individual entrant winner of each sub-category will receive: 

Fixed prize elements

1) Windows Vista Ultimate (x1)

2) Visual Studio Professional Edition (x1)

And a choice of one prize from the following Prize Selection

1) Xbox 360

2) EVGA GeForce 8800GTX 768MB DDR3 PCIE DUAL DVI ACS3 / DirectX 10 graphics card

3) Wacom Tablet and SoftImage XSI Foundation V6.01

4) Sonar 6 Studio plus Edirol USB -25

8. Prizes are as stated and non transferable. No cash or other alternatives available. Microsoft reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value. The prizes will be sent by recorded delivery by the end of July 2007.

9. WINNERS LIST: The winner(s) consent to their surname being made publicly available. The winner(s) surname will be available for a period of 6 months after the closing date by contacting the XNA UK User Group on the http://www.xna-uk.net/ site.

10. OTHER: No correspondence will be entered into regarding either this competition or these Terms and Conditions. In the unlikely event of a dispute, Microsoft's decision shall be final. Microsoft reserves the right to amend, modify, cancel or withdraw this competition at any time without notice.
