ATTDeveloper webcast “Connecting WP7 to the web” part 2 breakdown
Meet the Expert - WP7 and the Web (Part 2 / 2 in the Scoreboard series)

Well that was certainly an interesting session to be had by all and hopefully everyone got something out of it.

AT&T will be publishing the video and slide deck in a few days, when it’s available I'll update here as well.

In the webcast we covered:

  • Connect up to the backend WCF service for the scoreboard
  • Grabbing Data from the service
  • Populating the view model with the service data
  • Data validations
  • Extension methods
  • Making the web calls process simpler using Reactive Extensions
  • Doing basic HTTP web post calls
  • Doing HTTP post calls reactively

All went well and as good as I would have hoped.

So get out there and build great web connected apps (or games)

The full (working) source code for the session can be found here:  ProjectOne-Final-Pt2.zip

I’ve also made a few additional comment in the code to explain more of the reactive code, I would highly recommend looking at Jesse Liberty’s blog section on reactive programming and also making full use of the Reactive Extensions DevLab for more info.

So is there going to be more?

Well I'm going back to my own projects now after I've done a bit of blogging on stuff piling up while I've been preparing for these webcasts and the Microsoft Techdays online event.  Won’t say more yet but keep an eye out.

However!

There will be two more chances to ask questions and catch up with me over on the @ATTDEVELOPER channel, where I’ve been asked to host some Live chat sessions fro WP7 either in XNA or Silverlight, I'm happy to answer both (Just don’t ask question I cannot answer, like when is AT&T releasing NoDo or the Nokia deal)  I’ll only comment on fact and what I do know =D.

To access the live chat:

  • From there you will enter in to the Live chat and if you ask one of the agents about WP7 or ask for me, they will send you right over.

I’ll be online at 1PM for about 30  mins (maybe a bit more, it’ll be late here in the UK) on:

    Tuesday 5th April
    Thursday 7th April

SO if you want to chat and / or ask questions, I'll be around then

So that’s it from me and goodnight from him.

Hot smile

P.S.

I should still point this out, I don’t actually work for either AT&T or Microsoft, I’m just a very eager and enthusiastic Indie developer who likes to teach and get other people excited what I'm excited about.  Hence why I like doing intro and beginner sessions, just a taste to get you hooked!
